God, in the riches of his free grace, offers Jesus Christ to poor, lost, and ruined sinners. The Lord Jesus not only died to open the way back to God; he also stands at the door of the heart, calling sinners to be reconciled to God.
If you care for your soul, do not harden your heart any longer. Open to the King of Glory. Christ knows your life. He knows your sins, your unbelief, your carelessness, and your resistance. Yet he still stands at the door and knocks. He is willing to receive you with mercy, forgive your sins, heal you, and save your soul.
Consider how much you need Christ. Can you be saved without him? If Christ may be yours by opening the door, then while it is still called today, hear his voice and open to him.
Consider also the day when you must stand before God. What answer will you give if you have hardened your heart against Christ? You cannot say that the Gospel never offered Christ to you. You have heard his promise: if anyone hears his voice and opens the door, he will come in.
The pleasures, money, land, reputation, and friendships of this world will not help you on that day. When this life and all its comforts are gone, what have you laid up for the world to come? Is the door of your heart open to Christ?
The broad way of the world does not lead to the promised land. A golden key cannot open heaven's gate. Your success in this world will not plead for you before the Judge. Ask your soul honestly: where am I going? Toward light or darkness? Toward Christ or away from him?
But there is still good news. Christ still waits. Christ is still willing to receive you. Why would you ruin yourself by neglecting so great a salvation? His message is not a message of destruction but a merciful invitation.
Perhaps you say, “I want to come to Christ, but I fear he will never receive a sinner as wretched as I am.” Poor soul, are you willing to come to Christ? Then he will by no means cast you out. Come poor, miserable, blind, and naked. Come saying, “Lord, have mercy on me. Make me rich in faith. Open my eyes. Save me, for I cannot save myself.”
Come to Christ by believing in him. When you see no escape from the wrath of God, lay hold of Christ by faith and say, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” Jesus Christ, who gives mercy even to rebels, will receive you.
