Jesus said, “If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?” These simple words show that faith rests on truth. We believe something because we receive it as true. Unbelief refuses to receive what God says as true.
Saving faith is not a vague feeling. It is receiving as true what God has revealed about Christ. God has made Christ and his work known for our salvation. Faith receives God's testimony concerning his Son.
The first question is not, “Do I feel enough?” The first question is, “Is what God has said about Christ true?” If it is true, receive it. Trust the Christ who died and rose again for sinners.
Do not wait until your faith appears strong enough. Faith saves not because faith itself is great, but because faith takes hold of the great Christ. Even weak faith, if it lays hold of Christ, is faith unto life.
Believe and live. Receive God's testimony concerning his Son, and rest not in yourself but in Christ.
