하나님의 약속대로 아브라함과 사라 사이에서 아들 이삭이 태어납니다. 이삭을 무시했던 이스마엘은 어미 하갈과 함께 아브라함 집에서 추방되지만, 하나님은 그들에게도 은혜를 베푸십니다. 이제 아브라함에게는 마지막 시험이 찾아옵니다. 하나님은 아브라함이 하나님을 완전히 신뢰하는지 확인하기를 원하셨고, 아브라함은 아들 이삭까지도 아끼지 않을 만큼 신실하게 응답하십니다. 물론 하나님이 실제로 이삭을 제물로 삼으려고 하신 것은 아니었으며, 언약의 계보는 아브라함에서 이삭으로 이어집니다. 사라가 먼저 세상을 떠나고, 아브라함은 사랑하는 아들 이삭이 리브가와 혼례를 올리고 가정을 이루는 모습을 봅니다.
