Submit, and Become Free

We often misunderstand freedom. We think freedom means doing whatever we want and refusing every authority. But when we make ourselves masters, we become slaves to our own desires. God created us to live under him, not to crush us, but to give us life in the right way. A fish is free in water, not when it jumps out of it. So the heart is free under the God who made it. Jesus Christ submitted perfectly to the Father, and through that submission he rescued us from sin. Our rebellion leads to bondage, but life in Christ leads to true freedom. Do not fear submission to God. His commands are not chains; they are the way of life. The Spirit teaches us to say, 'Your will be done,' with a trusting heart. Prayer Father who made me, I praise you because true freedom is found under your good rule. Forgive me for thinking self-rule is freedom and resisting your will. Thank you for Jesus Christ, who submitted in my place. Holy Spirit, help me trust and obey with joy. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
