The Story

When we sin, we often look for reasons to lighten our guilt. If that person had been kinder, if work had been easier, if my family had understood me, then perhaps I would not have done this. Circumstances may truly be hard, and others may truly wrong us. But our disobedience reveals what the heart loves more than God. Often we do not lack grace to obey; we love something else more. Jesus never shifted blame to others. Though he had no sin, he bore the guilt of sinners upon himself. The cross exposes our excuses and opens the way for honest repentance. Stop asking only, 'Who made me this way?' Begin asking, 'What is my heart loving right now?' The Holy Spirit helps us take responsibility for our sin and run back to Christ, whose grace is enough. Prayer Holy Father, I praise you because you see my heart clearly and call me to repentance with mercy. Forgive me for blaming people and circumstances instead of confessing my own sin. Thank you for Jesus Christ, who bore my guilt. Holy Spirit, help me love God above all else. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
