The Story

We know very little about our own lives. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, what motives hide in our hearts, or where our preferred path will lead. Yet we often speak to God as if we know best. Our ignorance is not the most frightening thing. More frightening is the heart that refuses to admit it does not know. When we think we are wise enough, we argue with God's Word and choose what seems right to us. God does not merely know more than we do. He knows all things with wisdom and goodness. He sees the beginning and the end, and he loves his children too much to let them be their own gods. Jesus placed himself under the Father's will, even when that road led to the cross. We can be humble today, not because we understand everything, but because we know the God who does. Prayer All-knowing Father, I praise you because your wisdom is deeper than my thoughts and your goodness steadier than my feelings. Forgive me for arguing with your Word and trusting my thoughts more than you. Thank you for Jesus Christ, who willingly lived under the Father's will. Holy Spirit, make me humble and trusting. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
