The Story

We are saved by mercy, not because we were worthy. God has been patient with us, forgiven us, and come near to us in our weakness. Yet we are often impatient with the weakness of others. When others sin, we often judge faster than we pray. We remember their wrongs longer than we remember the grace we have received. We want mercy for ourselves and immediate justice for others. This shows how much our hearts still need the mercy of Christ. We do not merely lack better relationship skills. We lack hearts ruled by grace. Jesus suffered for us so that those who received mercy would learn to show mercy. Look at weak people today with eyes that remember the gospel. Mercy does not pretend sin is unimportant. It draws near with humility to help a brother or sister return to Christ. Prayer Merciful Father, I praise you because you are patient, forgiving, and faithful to weak children. Forgive me for judging others quickly while forgetting how much mercy I have received. Thank you for Jesus Christ, who suffered to save me. Holy Spirit, soften my heart and make me ready to pass mercy on. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
