The Story

We often find it difficult to ask for help. We do not want to say that we do not know, we do not want to admit that we are weak, and we want others to see that we can get by on our own. This is not just a matter of personality, but something that sin does in our hearts. Sin sows the idea of independence in our hearts, deceiving us that we do not need to rely on God and do not need to rely on one another. It makes us think that we have wisdom, power, and righteousness in ourselves more than the truth. We were not created to be self-sufficient, but to rely on God. The dream of being self-sufficient is not freedom, but a nightmare. A life that tries to be sufficient without God will result in unrighteousness, falsehood, and death. The kindness of Jesus Christ frees us from the illusion of independence. He brings us back into a relationship with God who has everything we truly need. Our Father, the Creator, I praise you because you created me to rely on you, and in Christ you have brought me back to you again. Please forgive me when I act like myself and do not want your favor. Thank you, Jesus Christ, who has helped me to be free from self-reliance. May the Holy Spirit humble me and teach me to rely on God, and receive help through the instrument of God's grace, praying in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
