When Longing Becomes Necessity

We often turn what we want into what we think we need. At first, it may be just a desire, but as we begin to feel that we cannot live without it, that desire starts to occupy our hearts. When desire becomes necessity, we begin to demand from God. We might think that God must give me this, and we start to judge God's love or faithfulness by whether He gives us that thing or not. But God never promised to give us everything we want. He is a Father who knows what is truly necessary for us, because we often confuse our desires with our needs. We need His wisdom and His grace. Jesus came to set us free from worshiping idols in our hearts. The good news frees the heart that has been bound by desire and teaches us to trust the Father who knows and prepares what we truly need. Our Father, all-knowing God, I praise you because you know what is truly necessary for me and have prepared it with your goodness. Please forgive me when I call my own desires necessary and doubt your love when I do not get what I want. Thank you, Jesus Christ, who has set me free from the slavery of desire. May the Holy Spirit transform my heart to trust in the wisdom of the Father more than my own desires. Pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
